Castle of Graz
The Castle of Graz is a fortress located on the eastern edge of the old town. Built in 1438 under Friedrich V, it served as the residence for the Inner Austrian archdukes. Visitors go here to see the architectural evolution of the site through its various extensions and to view the city from its elevated position.
Getting There
The fortress is situated directly adjacent to the old town center. It is accessible via a short walk or by using the Schlossbergbahn (funicular) which transports visitors from the city level up to the castle grounds in a few minutes.

Depending on whether you explore the interior rooms or focus on the perimeter and views, allow between 2 to 4 hours for a visit.
When to Visit
The site is open throughout the year. Morning visits are generally quieter, while afternoons can become crowded with tourists. During the summer months, the outdoor areas are most accessible, though the fortress remains a viable option in winter.
