Overview

Kluuvi is Helsinki's central commercial and business district. Travellers visit primarily for shopping, transit, and dining, as the neighborhood contains the Central Railway Station, department stores, and hotels. It also borders major cultural institutions such as the Ateneum Art Museum and the university campus.

Getting There

Because the district forms the core of downtown Helsinki, you are already there if you are in the city centre. From Helsinki Airport (HEL) or surrounding areas, local trains, the metro, and trams stop directly at the station in the middle of the district.

Time to Spend

Allow 1 to 2 hours for browsing the shopping streets. If adding nearby museum visits or dining, plan for half a day.

When to Visit

The streets and station areas become crowded during weekday rush hours and on weekend afternoons. Weekday mid-mornings are quieter. In winter, the enclosed department stores and underground passages offer shelter from cold conditions.
