About the Venue

Svenska Teatern is a historic Swedish-language theater at Erottaja Square, at the end of Helsinki's Esplanadi. Founded as Finland's first national theater, it hosts stage plays and musical performances. Visitors come to attend productions or view its architecture.

Getting There

Located in central Helsinki, the building is a 5- to 10-minute walk south from Helsinki Central Railway Station. City trams also stop directly at Erottaja Square.

Time to Allow

Allow 15 to 30 minutes to see the exterior. For an evening show, plan for 2 to 3 hours.

When to Go

Daylight hours are best for viewing the exterior, while evening visits are for performances. The entrance area gets crowded just before showtime. The main performance season runs from autumn through spring.
