Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Overview

Located in the Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island, this late 19th-century English Gothic Revival building is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. Visitors go to view its historic cruciform architecture, stone arches, and stained glass, and to experience a working cathedral in an urban setting.

Getting There

From Central, ride the Central–Mid-Levels escalators uphill and walk along Caine Road; the trip takes 15 to 20 minutes on foot. Taxis or minibuses from Central station take roughly 5 to 10 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to view the building exterior and walk through the main interior space.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are best for quiet visits. The building becomes crowded on Sundays and Catholic feast days, when tourist access may be limited during liturgical services.
