Overview

Frau Hitt is a rock peak in the Nordkette range north of Innsbruck, known for its resemblance to a woman on horseback. Hikers visit to view the rock ridge up close and explore high-alpine paths.

Getting There

From central Innsbruck, take the Nordkette cable railway system up to the Seegrube or Hafelekar stations. From there, marked mountain trails lead to the peak. The cable car ride takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes, followed by trail hiking.

Time to Allow

Allow 3 to 4 hours for a direct hike. If traversing to neighboring peaks along the ridge, set aside a half day to a full day.

When to Go

Visit from late spring through autumn when routes are free of snow. Start early to avoid afternoon storms. Cable car stations get crowded on sunny weekends, but the ridge trails have much less foot traffic.
