Dolmabahçe Palace
Overview
Dolmabahçe Palace is an Ottoman-era palace located along the European shoreline of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Built in the 19th century, it served as the administrative center and imperial residence during the late Ottoman period. Travellers visit to examine its European-influenced architecture, preserved ceremonial halls, and waterfront gardens.
Getting There
From central areas such as Sultanahmet, take the T1 tram line to Kabataş station, followed by a 5-minute walk north along the coastline (about 25 minutes total). From Taksim Square, take the F1 funicular down to Kabataş or walk downhill in approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend between 2 and 3 hours to walk through the main ceremonial quarters, the harem section, and the outdoor grounds.
When to Visit
