Kruys Church

Located near the gate inside the Jaffna Fort, this Protestant church was built by the Dutch in 1706. Visitors go here to see one of the oldest examples of Dutch colonial religious architecture in Sri Lanka and to explore the historical layout of the fort.

The church is situated within the Jaffna Fort, which is centrally located. From the city center, it is a short trip by tuk-tuk or a walk, typically taking about 10 to 15 minutes depending on your starting point.

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to view the church and its immediate surroundings within the fort walls.

When to Visit

Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat of the Jaffna peninsula. The site is outdoors and exposed, so lightweight clothing is practical. It can become crowded during local holidays or peak tourist seasons.
