Gereja Sion

Gereja Sion

This Protestant church, built in the late 17th century, is the oldest building in Jakarta still used for its original purpose. It is also one of the oldest active Protestant churches in Asia. Visitors go here to see the colonial-era architecture and the historical interior of a functioning religious site.

Getting There

The church is located in the Old Town area (Kota Tua). From the city centre, the most common way to reach it is via taxi or ride-hailing app. Depending on Jakarta's traffic conditions, the journey typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 45 to 1 hour to walk through the building and observe the architecture.

When to Visit

Visiting during weekday mornings is generally quieter. Avoid visiting during scheduled religious services if you wish to explore the building without interrupting worshippers. The area can become crowded on weekends and public holidays when local tourism increases.
