About Chabahil

Chabahil is an old neighborhood in northeastern Kathmandu. Travelers visit this area primarily to see the Dhando Chaitya Stupa, which is recognized as one of the oldest Buddhist sites in the Kathmandu Valley. The neighborhood blends residential life with religious landmarks, offering a glimpse into the city's spiritual history.

Getting There

The area is located northeast of the city center. You can reach it via taxi or local transport from central Kathmandu. Depending on the traffic conditions, which can be heavy in this part of the city, the journey typically takes 20 to 40 minutes.

Suggested Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the neighborhood and the main stupa. If you intend to visit the surrounding shrines and walk through the local streets, you may want to allocate more time.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon are the best times to visit to avoid the midday heat. The area can become crowded during Buddhist festivals and public holidays. The autumn and spring seasons generally offer the most stable weather for walking tours.
