What It Is

The Parachute Tower is a 35-meter steel lattice structure built in 1937 for parachute training. German forces used it as an observation post in the early days of World War II. Travellers visit to see a rare surviving piece of pre-war aviation infrastructure and a historical wartime landmark.

Getting There

Located south of central Katowice, the site is reachable by tram or bus from the main train station in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Walking from the city centre takes about 25 to 30 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 20 to 30 minutes. Since the tower is an outdoor monument viewed from ground level, this is enough time to examine the structure and read the informational markers.

When to Visit

Daylight hours provide the best visibility for viewing the lattice framework. Spring through autumn is ideal for walking. The site does not draw large crowds, though the surrounding park sees moderate local use on sunny weekends.
