Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor

This UNESCO World Heritage site encompasses the Bay of Kotor and the fortified old town of Kotor in Montenegro. Visitors go here to see the integration of medieval fortifications and stone architecture with the surrounding coastal landscape. The site is characterized by its defensive walls that climb the mountain slopes and the layout of the historic settlement.

Getting There

The region's primary focal point is the old town, which serves as the center of Kotor. If you are staying in the city center, the historic area is accessible by foot within a few minutes.

Time Requirements

Allow at least half a day to walk through the old town and explore the lower fortifications. Those intending to hike up the city walls to the fortress should allocate several additional hours.

When to Visit

The area gets crowded during the summer months. Visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn provides a quieter experience. Early morning is recommended for those climbing the walls to avoid midday heat.
