Old Kuopio Museum
This open-air museum consists of a collection of historic wooden houses relocated to a single site. It serves as a preservation of the traditional architecture and domestic life of the Kuopio region from previous centuries. Visitors go here to walk through old lanes and see how residents lived and worked in the past.
Getting There
The museum is located within walking distance of the city centre. Depending on your starting point downtown, it takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to reach the site on foot.
Visit Duration
Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to walk through the grounds and explore the various wooden structures.
When to Visit
The museum is best visited during the warmer months when the outdoor grounds are fully accessible and the surrounding greenery is active. Morning or late afternoon visits typically offer a quieter experience. It does not generally experience extreme crowding, though weekends may be busier than weekdays.
