The Flon

The Flon is an 11.5-kilometer stream that has historically shaped the landscape of Lausanne. While much of the water no longer flows openly into Lake Geneva, travelers visit to follow the traces of its former course on foot through the city. It serves as a geographical marker that connects different urban sectors and provides a walking route through the city's layout.

Getting There

The area is located within the city of Lausanne. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk or local public transport, typically taking less than 10 to 15 minutes depending on the starting point.

Duration of Visit

Depending on how much of the former course you choose to trace, allow 1 to 2 hours for a walk through the area.

When to Visit

The route is accessible year-round. Daytime is recommended for better visibility of the geographical markers. Like most central urban areas in Lausanne, it can become crowded during weekends and peak tourist seasons.

Nearby Attractions

The location can be combined with other nearby sites within walking distance or a short transit ride:

  • Vivarium de Lausanne (0.5km)
  • Lac de Sauvabelin (1km)
  • Aquatis (1.2km)
  • Tour de Sauvabelin (1.2km)
