What It Is

HMS Bronington is a decommissioned Royal Navy minesweeper with a wooden hull, once moored on the River Mersey near Liverpool. Opened as a museum ship, it offers a direct look into Cold War naval life and the construction of wooden-hulled warships.

Getting There

From Liverpool city centre, take a Merseyrail train from Liverpool Central or James Street to Birkenhead (about 10 minutes), or ride the Mersey Ferry from Pier Head to Woodside (10 to 15 minutes) and walk to the dock.

Time to Allow

Allow 1 to 2 hours on site. Navigating the narrow corridors, steep ladders, and engine spaces requires some time and careful footing.

When to Go

Visit during daylight and dry weather, as the dockside and open decks are exposed to river winds and rain. Crowds are generally light, making visits unhurried.
