Overview

Ljubljana Zoo serves as Slovenia's national zoo and operates year-round. The facility houses approximately 500 animals across 119 species (excluding insects), set within a natural forested environment. It provides visitors with a straightforward outdoor setting to observe native European wildlife alongside species from other continents.

Getting There

The site is situated southwest of central Ljubljana. A local bus ride or taxi from the city centre takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Visitors can also walk or cycle from the city through adjacent park paths in roughly 30 to 40 minutes.

Suggested Duration

Allow between 2 and 3 hours to walk the pathways and see the various animal enclosures.

When to Visit

Mornings are generally best for animal activity before the midday heat. While accessible in all seasons, spring and autumn offer mild conditions for walking outdoors. Weekends, holidays, and sunny summer afternoons tend to draw the largest crowds.

  • International Centre of Graphic Arts (1.6 km)
