Opera Ljubljana
Overview
The Ljubljana Opera House is the permanent home of the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet. Built in the late 19th century, the Neo-Renaissance venue hosts classical and contemporary operas, ballets, and concerts. Travelers visit to attend live stage productions or to view the historic facade.
Getting There
The hall is located just west of the city centre. From Prešeren Square, it is a 5- to 10-minute walk along Cankarjeva Street. Walking from Ljubljana Central Station takes about 15 minutes.
Time to Allow
Allow 2 to 3 hours if attending a performance, factoring in running time and intermissions. For viewing the building exterior, 15 to 20 minutes is sufficient.
When to Go
The performance season runs from autumn to late spring, with shows primarily scheduled in the evening. The lobby gets crowded roughly 30 minutes before showtime, so plan to arrive with time to spare.
