St James's Park

St James's Park

This is the oldest of London's royal parks, located in the city centre. Originally reserved for royal use, it has been open to the public since the 17th century. Travellers visit to walk through the landscaped gardens, observe the resident pelicans, and view the skyline of the city from the lake.

Getting There

The park is centrally located and accessible via the London Underground. Depending on your starting point in the city centre, it typically takes 15 to 30 minutes to reach via tube or bus. The nearest stations are St. James's Park and Green Park.

Time Required

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk the main paths and view the lake. The pace depends on whether you intend to sit and observe the wildlife or simply pass through to nearby landmarks.

When to Visit

The park is open year-round. Spring and summer offer the most foliage and floral displays. It gets crowded during peak tourist seasons and on weekends. Visiting early in the morning is a way to avoid the largest crowds.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location, the park is a convenient starting point for visiting other royal sites. You can combine your visit with the following nearby locations:

  • Clarence House (0.3km)
  • St James's Palace (0.3km)
  • Buckingham Palace (0.5km)
  • Green Park (0.6km)
