Cima di Fojorina
Overview
Cima di Fojorina is a peak in the Lugano Prealps along the Swiss-Italian border. Sitting on the ridge that separates the Colla Valley from Lake Lugano, it attracts hikers for trekking along the boundary line and views of the surrounding valleys.
Getting There
From central Lugano, drive or take a bus into the Colla Valley toward trailheads near Cimadera. The trip to the trailhead takes roughly 40 to 50 minutes, followed by marked mountain trails up to the ridge.
Time to Allow
Plan for 4 to 6 hours. This covers the ascent, time on the ridge, and the descent.
When to Visit
Go between late spring and autumn when trails are snow-free. Early morning starts avoid heat and midday haze. The mountain is rarely crowded, though local hikers visit on sunny weekends.
Nearby Combinations
You can extend the route to nearby points:
- Val Colla (3.7km): Starting area with lower-elevation paths.
- Denti della Vecchia (4km): Limestone formation along the same ridge line.
- Monte Boglia (6.2km): Another border peak south along the crest.
- Monte Bar (6.9km): Peak across the valley offering connecting ridge walks.
