Lusaka National Park

Located southeast of the city, this is Zambia's most recently established national park. It consists of a fenced protected area designed to safeguard local wildlife, allowing visitors to observe animals in a controlled environment. Travelers visit this site to see wildlife without traveling to the more remote regions of the country.

Getting There

The park is situated outside the main urban hub of Lusaka. The most practical way to reach the site from the city centre is by hiring a taxi or using a rental car. Depending on traffic conditions, the drive typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes.

Duration of Visit

A half-day trip is generally sufficient to explore the protected area and view the resident wildlife. Most visitors spend approximately 3 to 4 hours on-site.

When to Visit

Wildlife is often more active during the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler. Visiting during the dry season typically makes animal spotting easier as wildlife congregates around water sources. The park does not experience the same level of congestion as major global tourist hubs, though weekends may be busier with local visitors.

Nearby Attractions

Because the park is located on the outskirts, you can combine your visit with other sites in the Lusaka area. Nearby points of interest include:

  • Embassy Park (11.8km)
  • Child Jesus Cathedral (12km)
  • Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Lusaka (12.4km)
  • FINDECO House (13.6km)
