Hulhumalé Mosque
Overview
Hulhumalé Mosque is a prominent Sunni place of worship located in the planned urban development of Hulhumalé, near Malé. Visitors come to view its distinctive circular architecture and gold dome, and to experience everyday religious life in the Maldives outside the dense capital.
Getting There
From central Malé, the site is accessible via the Sinamalé Bridge by public bus or taxi. The drive generally takes 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic. It is also accessible by road from Velana International Airport in approximately 10 minutes.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend about 30 to 45 minutes to observe the exterior architecture and walk around the surrounding plaza.
When to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon provides cooler temperatures for walking. The site gets crowded around the daily prayer calls, especially during Friday midday prayer when large numbers of worshippers gather. Modest attire covering shoulders and knees is expected.
