About Trinity Bridge

Trinity Bridge is a dedicated pedestrian footbridge that spans the River Irwell, connecting Manchester and Salford. Completed in 1995, the structure is an early work by architect Santiago Calatrava and remains his only bridge built in the UK. Visitors and architecture enthusiasts visit to observe its distinctive cable-stayed form and view the surrounding river corridor.

Getting There

Located immediately adjacent to central Manchester, the crossing is accessible on foot from the city centre in roughly 5 to 10 minutes. Walking from primary central railway and tram stations typically takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend about 10 to 20 minutes to cross the footbridge, examine the structural details, and view the riverbanks.

When to Visit

Daylight hours provide the clearest view of the bridge's white pylon and cable arrangement. The structure is also illuminated after dark. As an active pedestrian route linking commercial districts, foot traffic increases during weekday morning and evening commuting hours, though it rarely causes significant crowding.

Nearby Attractions

The central riverside location allows for easy combination with several nearby sites:

  • People's History Museum (0.2km)
  • St Ann's Church, Manchester (0.3km)
  • Manchester Opera House (0.4km)
  • Royal Exchange (0.4km)
