Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden

Overview

Located in the Malate district of Manila, this municipal facility first opened in 1959 and reopened to visitors in 2022 following extensive renovations. It features a mix of wildlife enclosures and botanical gardens, providing a dedicated green space where travelers can observe local and exotic animal species alongside native plant collections.

Getting There

From central Manila, you can reach the site by taxi, ride-hailing vehicle, or public jeepney traveling toward Malate along Quirino Avenue. Depending on traffic flow in the city center, the journey usually takes between 15 and 35 minutes.

Visiting Time

Allow roughly 2 to 3 hours to navigate the walking paths, view the animal habitats, and explore the botanical areas at an unhurried pace.

When to Go

Plan your visit for early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday tropical heat, as the majority of walkways are outdoors. The grounds become crowded on weekends and public holidays with local family outings, so scheduling a weekday visit offers a much quieter experience.

Nearby Attractions

You can easily pair a tour of the grounds with several nearby points of interest:

  • Malate Church (0.7 km): A historic stone church dating to the Spanish colonial era.
  • Plaza Rajah Sulayman (0.7 km): A public square situated directly across from Malate Church.
  • 1322 Golden Empire Tower (1.6 km): A landmark residential skyscraper along the Manila Bay skyline.
  • National Museum of Natural History (2.2 km): A major national museum located a short drive to the north.
