Overview

San Sebastian Church is a Roman Catholic minor basilica under the Archdiocese of Manila, also known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Dedicated to Saint Sebastian, it features Gothic Revival architecture and a distinctive metal structure. Visitors come to see the historic nave, painted finishes, and religious artwork in a peaceful environment.

Getting There

Located in Manila's Quiapo district, the basilica is reachable by taxi or ride-hailing app from the city centre in about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on road traffic. Public transit options include taking the LRT-2 train to Legarda Station, followed by a short walk.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to view the interior altars and external architecture.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings provide the quietest experience. Sunday services attract large local crowds, making sightseeing difficult. To avoid heavy road congestion and rain, travel during morning hours and outside the June-to-October wet season.

The basilica can easily be paired with several nearby sites:

  • Quiapo Church (0.6 km)
  • Masjid Al-Dahab (0.6 km)
  • Puente Colgante (0.9 km)
