Almoravid Koubba

Overview

The Almoravid Koubba is a small 12th-century domed structure in Marrakech. Built under the Almoravid dynasty, it is one of the few surviving examples of architecture from that period. Travelers interested in Moroccan architectural history visit to see its intricate decorative carvings, arches, and dome engineering.

Getting There

Located in the northern part of the old city, the site is reachable on foot from central points such as Jemaa el-Fna. The walk through the pedestrian streets of the medina takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Time to Allow

Plan to spend 20 to 30 minutes on site. The monument consists of a single compact building in an excavated courtyard, which leaves ample time to view the exterior details and interior dome structure.

When to Go

Morning and late afternoon visits provide cooler conditions, which is helpful since the site is open to the elements with limited shade. Crowds are generally low to moderate, though small tour groups periodically pass through during peak morning hours.

What to Combine It With

The monument is situated close to several other historical stops within the old town:

  • Ibn Yusuf Mosque (0km)
  • Marrakech Museum (0.1km)
  • Medina of Marrakesh (0.1km)
  • House of photography (0.3km)
