Masjid-u-Shajarah

Overview

Masjid-u-Shajarah, located in the Abyar Ali area south of Medina, serves as the designated Miqat point for pilgrims heading to Mecca. It is the official station where travellers enter the state of Ihram, declare their intention, and pray before starting Hajj or Umrah. For other visitors, it offers insight into the practical organization of the pilgrimage route.

Getting There

The site sits about 10 kilometres south of the city centre. You can reach it by taxi or ride-hailing services in roughly 15 to 20 minutes along the main southbound highway.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes for a standard visit to see the mosque and courtyard. Pilgrims intending to shower, change into garments, and perform prayers should plan for 1 to 2 hours.

When to Visit

Expect heavy crowds during Hajj season, Ramadan, and immediately following daily prayer times when tour buses depart. Mid-morning on weekdays is quieter. Due to intense midday heat in the warmer months, morning or evening visits are preferable.

Nearby Attractions

Consider combining your visit with nearby locations:

  • Ayr Mountain (2.1km)
  • Bani Bayadhah Mosque (5.7km)
  • Manartain mosque (6.9km)
  • Mosque of Al-Saqiya (7.9km)
