Overview

The Palace of Iturbide is a historic mansion situated on Madero Street in Mexico City's historic center. Commissioned by the Count of San Mateo de Valparaíso as a wedding gift for his daughter, the residence is historically significant as the site where Agustín de Iturbide accepted the Mexican crown as emperor. Today, it operates as an art museum and cultural exhibition venue, drawing visitors interested in colonial architecture and rotating art exhibitions.

Getting There

Located in the city center, the mansion is on the pedestrian-only Madero Street. Walking from the central Zócalo takes roughly 5 minutes heading west, while walking from the Bellas Artes transit area takes about 5 minutes heading east.

Visit Duration

Allow 45 to 60 minutes to walk through the central courtyard and tour the current exhibitions across the galleries.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings are the best time to visit to avoid crowds. Madero Street and the building interior become busy on weekend afternoons and during peak travel seasons.
