Fateixa

Fateixa is an uninhabited mountain valley located on the west coast of São Vicente Island. It is characterized by a basin surrounded by ridges reaching heights of 300 to 400 metres. Travellers visit this area to experience secluded natural scenery and to hike across its mountain passes.

Getting There

The valley is located a short distance from the city centre of Mindelo. Access is typically via rental car or local transport. The drive from the city centre takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on the route and road conditions.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the intended activity, visitors should allow between 2 and 4 hours. This provides sufficient time to traverse the mountain passes and observe the valley floor.

When to Visit

The area is best visited during the cooler morning hours to avoid the midday heat. Because it is uninhabited and remote, it does not typically get crowded.

Combining with Other Sites

Due to its location, this site can be combined with other nearby natural landmarks and points of interest:

  • Monte Cara (2.2km): A prominent volcanic peak.
  • Monte Montona (4.3km): Another high point on the island.
  • Porto Grande Bay (5.4km): The main harbor area of Mindelo.
  • Ribeira do Julião (6.3km): A local valley and stream area.
