Overview
Monte Verde is a mountain situated on the eastern side of São Vicente island. Rising to a 744-meter peak, it is the highest point on the island. Travelers visit to access sweeping views across the island's landscape, surrounding coastline, and the city below.
Getting There
Located 6 kilometers east of downtown Mindelo, the site can be reached by car, taxi, or on foot. Driving from the city center to the summit takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes along the access road, while walking from the base takes considerably longer.
Time to Allow
Visitors traveling by vehicle typically spend 1 to 2 hours exploring the summit area and taking in the panoramic scenery. Those hiking up and down the mountain should plan for a half-day excursion lasting 3 to 4 hours.
When to Visit
Morning or late afternoon visits provide the clearest viewing conditions, as clouds and fog frequently gather around the peak during the middle of the day. The location does not get heavily crowded, but visitors should be prepared for strong wind and cooler temperatures at high elevation.
