Tête de Chien

Overview

Tête de Chien is a 550-meter-high rocky headland located near the French village of La Turbie. As the highest point along the Grande Corniche road, it offers an unobstructed view over the entire Principality of Monaco and the surrounding coast. Travellers visit to see the layout of the city-state from above, including the port and the old town.

Getting There

From central Monaco, driving or taking a taxi takes about 20 to 30 minutes via La Turbie, followed by a short walk on a footpath. Hiking up from Monaco on marked trails takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours of steep uphill walking.

Time to Allow

Plan for 45 minutes to 1 hour at the summit to walk the paths and take photos. Budget half a day if hiking on foot.

When to Visit

Clear weather is essential, as fog or low clouds will block the view. Late afternoon offers favorable lighting and cooler conditions. Summer midday can be hot with minimal shade. The area gets crowded on sunny weekends, making roadside parking difficult.
