About Parque Prado

Established in 1873, Parque Prado is the largest public park in Montevideo. Located in the northern section of the city, its expansive green grounds are crossed by the Miguelete River. Visitors go to walk along paved paths, exercise, or rest in an open natural space away from the urban centre.

Getting There

From central Montevideo, the grounds are reachable by local city bus or taxi. A drive or taxi ride takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. Urban bus routes heading north to the Prado neighbourhood take around 30 to 40 minutes from downtown.

Suggested Duration

Allow 1 to 2 hours for a standard walk along the river and main pathways. Those planning a picnic or a slower stroll across the lawns should set aside 2 to 3 hours.

When to Visit

Daylight hours are best for walking through the park. Weekday mornings are quiet, while weekend afternoons can become crowded with local families. Spring and summer bring warmer temperatures and greener foliage, making outdoor walking more pleasant.
