What It Is

Haus der Kunst is a contemporary art museum situated just south of the English Garden. Housed in a prominent neoclassical building, it hosts non-collecting, rotating exhibitions that showcase modern and contemporary works, including large-scale installations, photography, and video art from international artists.

Getting There

From Munich's city centre around Marienplatz or Odeonsplatz, the journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You can ride a local tram or bus directly to the Nationalmuseum/Haus der Kunst stop, or take the U-Bahn to Odeonsplatz or Lehel and walk the remaining distance.

Time to Spend

Allow between 1.5 and 2.5 hours to tour the galleries, depending on the scale and number of temporary exhibitions currently on display.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings and early afternoons tend to be quieter. Crowds increase noticeably on weekends and during the opening weeks of major temporary shows.
