National Art Gallery of The Bahamas

The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas is the first national art museum in the Bahamas. It houses a collection of works by local artists that document the history and identity of the country as an independent nation. Visitors go here to trace the evolution of Bahamian art and understand the cultural development of the islands through visual media.

Getting There

The gallery is located within the downtown area of Nassau. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk or a brief taxi ride, typically taking less than 10 minutes depending on your exact starting point.

Visit Duration

Depending on the current exhibitions and your interest in art history, allow approximately 1.5 to 3 hours to walk through the galleries and view the permanent and temporary collections.

When to Visit

Visiting during the morning hours often allows for a quieter experience before the midday peak. Like many central attractions in Nassau, it can get crowded during the cruise ship docking seasons. There are no specific seasonal restrictions, though the indoor environment provides a break from the midday sun.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the museum can be combined with visits to several nearby landmarks:

  • St. Francis Xavier Cathedral (0.1km)
  • Christ Church Cathedral (0.4km)
  • St. Andrew's Presbyterian Kirk (0.4km)
  • Nassau Public Library (0.7km)
