Omeriye Mosque
What It Is
Omeriye Mosque is an active Islamic place of worship in the southern half of Nicosia's walled city. It is one of the primary functional mosques in the southern part of the island, offering travellers a look at historic religious architecture within the old town.
Getting There
The site is easily reached on foot from the city centre. Walking from central points like Eleftheria Square takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes through the old quarter. Travellers arriving at Larnaca International Airport (LCA) can take an airport bus into central Nicosia before walking to the site.
Time to Allow
Set aside 20 to 30 minutes. This allows sufficient time to view the exterior, courtyard, and interior prayer hall outside of active worship times.
When to Go
The mosque rarely gets crowded. Visit during daylight hours between daily prayers. Avoid Friday midday services, ensure shoulders and knees are covered, and remove footwear before entering the prayer hall.
