Hasan Bey Mosque, Niš

Hasan Bey Mosque

The Hasan Bey Mosque is an 18th-century Ottoman-era structure located in the center of Niš. Due to repeated damage from fire and war, the building is no longer intact; only the minaret and portions of the original walls remain. Visitors go here to see remnants of old Islamic architecture and to observe the physical traces of the city's historical conflicts.

Getting There

The site is located in the downtown area of Niš. It is accessible on foot from the city center, typically requiring only a few minutes of walking depending on your starting point.

Visit Duration

Because the mosque consists primarily of ruins and a minaret rather than a large interior complex, allow approximately 20 to 30 minutes to view the site.

When to Visit

The site is an open-air ruin, making it accessible throughout the day. It does not typically experience heavy crowds, providing a quiet environment for reflection. All seasons are suitable for a visit, though midday sun in summer may be intense as there is limited overhead cover.

Nearby Attractions

The mosque is situated within walking distance of several other historical and cultural landmarks. You can combine this visit with the following sites, all located within 0.3km:

  • Islam-aga's Mosque
