Bázlerova pískovna
Bázlerova pískovna is a wetland nature reserve located on the outskirts of Olomouc. It consists of a small lake created by the flooding of a former sand quarry. Visitors go here for nature watching, as the area provides a habitat for rare amphibians, including various species of frogs and salamanders.
Getting There
The reserve is located outside the city centre. It is accessible via local public transport or by bicycle. Depending on the mode of transport, the journey from the centre typically takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Visit Duration
A visit to the area generally requires 1 to 2 hours, depending on how much time you spend observing the wildlife and walking around the perimeter of the lake.
When to Visit
Spring and summer are the most suitable seasons for observing active amphibian life. Visiting during the early morning or late afternoon is recommended for nature watching. The site does not typically experience the high crowds found in the city centre, though it is more frequented during warm weekends.
