Overview

Hraniční meandry Odry is a protected wetland reserve along the Czech-Polish border near Ostrava. The area preserves a naturally meandering section of the Oder River, featuring riparian forest, oxbow lakes, and gravel banks. Visitors go to walk or cycle along the riverside paths and view an undisturbed floodplain ecosystem.

Getting There

Located roughly 15 kilometres northeast of central Ostrava, the reserve takes about 20 minutes to reach by car via the D1 highway. Alternatively, regional trains run frequently from Ostrava to Bohumín in approximately 10 minutes, where local buses or walking routes lead to the trailheads.

Time to Spend

Allow 1.5 to 3 hours to walk the main trails along the riverbanks, or longer if cycling the extended paths.

When to Visit

Spring and autumn offer mild walking conditions and clear views through the trees. Summer brings higher humidity and mosquitoes near the water. Trails can be muddy after rain or seasonal high water. The reserve is rarely crowded, though local visitors increase on weekend afternoons.
