Old Ottawa East

Old Ottawa East

Old Ottawa East is a central residential neighborhood located between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River. Travelers visit this area to walk through its historic streets and use the Flora Footbridge, a pedestrian crossing completed in 2019 that connects the neighborhood to the Glebe district.

Getting There

The neighborhood is located just south of the downtown core. From the city center, it is accessible via a short trip by bus or a 10 to 15 minute walk, depending on your starting point.

Suggested Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the neighborhood and cross the footbridge. The pace is generally slow, as it is primarily a residential area rather than a dense commercial hub.

When to Visit

The area is best visited during the spring, summer, and autumn when the walking paths along the canal and river are accessible. It does not typically experience heavy tourist crowds, though the footbridge may see more pedestrian traffic on sunny weekends.
