Overview

Kahvankari is a small, uninhabited island situated in the Gulf of Bothnia off the coast of Oulu, Finland. Visitors travel here to experience undisturbed coastal nature and open sea views in an environment completely free of human settlements or commercial infrastructure.

Getting There

Accessing the island requires water transport, such as a private motorboat or sea kayak launched from the coastal harbor areas north of central Oulu. Depending on your mainland launch point and local water conditions, the boat transit typically takes between 20 and 40 minutes.

Plan to spend roughly 1 to 2 hours exploring the shoreline and observing the natural scenery, in addition to travel time to and from the mainland.

When to Visit

Summer is the most practical time to visit due to open water, calm navigation, and extended daylight hours. During the winter, the surrounding sea freezes over, though traversing sea ice requires caution and local guidance. Because there is no public ferry connection, the island does not experience crowds.
