Petra is not a conventional city but a vast archaeological site. Most visitors stay in the town of Wadi Musa, which serves as the gateway to the site. Movement is divided between navigating the town and traversing the archaeological park.

• Walking: The primary mode of transport. It is the only way to access the narrow Siq and the Treasury. It wins for those seeking the full experience and budget travelers.
• Horse-drawn Carriages: Available from the visitor center to the Treasury. These are faster for those with limited mobility or those wishing to save energy for the Monastery climb.
• Donkeys and Camels: Used for specific uphill treks. These are best for reaching high altars, though they are restricted in certain protected areas.

Passes and Tickets

The Jordan Pass is the most significant option. It includes the tourist visa and entry to Petra. It is ideal for international tourists staying multiple days. It does not suit those who are already residents or those visiting only a single site in Jordan.

From Ramon Airport (ETM) to Petra

Ramon Airport is located across the border in Israel. Travelers must cross the border via land before proceeding to Petra.

• Private Transfer: Lowest effort, highest cost. Direct transport from the border crossing to Wadi Musa.
• Shared Taxi: Moderate effort and cost. Common from border transit points.
• Bus: Highest effort, lowest cost. Requires coordinating schedules between border shuttles and local Jordanian transport.

• Luggage: The archaeological site is not suitable for luggage. Use hotel storage in Wadi Musa.
• Accessibility: The terrain is sandy and rocky. Wheelchair access is extremely limited within the main ruins.
• Last Services: Site gates close at sunset. Ensure you exit the park before the final gate closure to avoid being stranded.
• Rush Hours: Traffic in Wadi Musa peaks in the early morning and late afternoon as tour groups enter and exit the site.
