Hadrian's Library

This site consists of the ruins of a Roman-era library built in 132 AD by Emperor Hadrian. Located on the northern slope of the Acropolis, the site features remaining Corinthian columns and architectural fragments from the original structure. Travelers visit this location to see the scale of Roman civic architecture in Athens and to observe the preserved masonry of the ancient library walls.

Getting There

The library is located in the center of Athens. It is accessible via a short walk from Monastiraki Square. Depending on your starting point in the city center, it typically takes 5 to 15 minutes to reach on foot.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to walk through the ruins and view the remaining columns and structural layout.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the site is outdoors with limited shade. This area of the city is a major tourist hub and frequently gets crowded, particularly during the peak summer season.
