Overview

The St George the Conqueror Chapel Mausoleum is an Eastern Orthodox chapel and ossuary in Pleven. Built to honor soldiers who fell during the 1877 Siege of Plevna, it serves as a memorial and architectural landmark. Travellers visit to view its Byzantine-revival exterior, carved iconostasis, interior frescoes, and the crypt holding soldiers' remains.

Getting There

The monument is located on the main pedestrian square in central Pleven, reachable on foot from most central points in 2 to 5 minutes. Travellers arriving via Sofia Airport (SOF) can reach Pleven by intercity train or bus, followed by a short taxi ride to the square.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to view the exterior masonry, examine the interior artwork, and walk through the lower ossuary crypt.
