The Moka Range is a volcanic mountain ridge forming a semicircle around Port Louis. Travellers visit primarily for hiking trails across prominent peaks, including Le Pouce and Pieter Both, which provide clear elevated views over the capital and the island.

Getting There

The main trailheads sit just south and east of central Port Louis. A drive or taxi ride from the city centre takes roughly 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the chosen route and traffic.

Visiting Duration

Plan to spend between 3 and 5 hours. This allows sufficient time to complete an ascent and descent on one of the main trails and rest at the summit.

When to Go

Begin early in the morning to avoid midday heat and afternoon cloud cover, which often reduces visibility. Weekends draw more local hikers and can feel moderately crowded. Avoid visiting during or right after heavy rain, as steep dirt trails become slick.
