Cadeia da Relação

The Cadeia da Relação is an 18th-century building that formerly served as a courthouse and prison. It now houses the Centro Português de Fotografia, a museum dedicated to photography. Visitors go here to view rotating photo exhibitions within a space that retains the architectural traces of its original prison cells.

Getting There

The museum is located within Porto's historic old town. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk or a brief ride by public transport. Depending on your starting point in the centre, the walk typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the galleries and the building's interior, depending on the scale of the current exhibitions.

When to Visit

Visiting during weekday mornings generally avoids the larger crowds. Like many attractions in the old town, it can become busier during peak tourist seasons. There are no specific seasonal restrictions for visiting this indoor site.
