Located on the peninsula north peninsula of Dominica, this national park protects a diverse range of ecosystems, including rainforests, wetlands, and coral reefs. Visitors go here to hike through nature trails and explore Fort Shirley, a former British military fortress situated within the park boundaries.
Getting There
The park is situated just north of Portsmouth. From the city centre, it is a short drive of approximately 10 to 15 minutes via local roads.
Duration of Visit
Depending on whether you intend to explore both the coastal reefs and the inland trails, allow between 3 and 6 hours. Exploring the ruins of Fort Shirley and walking the forest paths requires several hours to cover the main points of interest.
When to Visit
The park is accessible year-round, though the rainy season can make forest trails muddy. Visiting in the early morning is recommended to avoid midday heat. It generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the island's primary tourist hubs.
