Dorchester Bridge

The Dorchester Bridge is a road bridge in Quebec City that spans the Saint-Charles River. It serves as a primary link between the La Cité and Limoilou districts. Travelers visit this landmark to observe the river crossing and the urban architecture connecting these two neighborhoods. While the original structure dates back to 1789, the current version was completed in 1972.

Getting There

The bridge is located a short distance from the city center. Depending on your starting point in the downtown area, you can reach it via a 10 to 15 minute drive or a 20 to 30 minute walk. Public transit options are available throughout the city to facilitate the trip.

Time Requirement

Since this is a functional piece of infrastructure rather than a museum or enclosed attraction, most visitors spend between 20 and 40 minutes here to cross the bridge and view the surrounding river scenery.

When to Visit

The bridge is accessible year-round. Visiting during the day provides the clearest views of the Saint-Charles River and the surrounding districts. As it is a main traffic artery, it can become crowded with vehicles during morning and evening rush hours.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a visit to the bridge with other nearby sites in the area:

  • Saint-Roch Church (0.5km)
  • Joseph-Samson Bridge–Tunnel (0.6km)
  • Parc Victoria (0.8km)
  • Place D'Youville (1.1km)
