Wolfe-Montcalm Monument

Located in the Governor's Garden adjacent to the Château Frontenac, this obelisk is the oldest monument in Quebec City, dating back to 1827. It commemorates General James Wolfe and General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, the opposing commanders during the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. Visitors go here to see the historical marker and the surrounding garden landscape.

Getting There

The monument is situated within the historic district of Old Quebec. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your starting point within the historic core.

Time Requirement

Because it is a single outdoor monument, most visitors spend about 15 to 30 minutes at the site to view the obelisk and the immediate garden area.

When to Visit

The site is open to the air and accessible throughout the year. Morning or late afternoon visits provide softer light for viewing the stone. Like most sites near the Château Frontenac, this area can get crowded during the peak summer tourist season and during cruise ship arrivals.
