Islamabad Zoo

The Islamabad Zoo is a wildlife facility located in the capital region of Pakistan. Established in 1978, it spanned 82 acres and housed a diverse range of animal species. However, the zoo closed in 2020 following controversies regarding animal welfare. Because it is currently closed to the public, travelers can no longer enter the grounds or view the exhibits.

Getting There

The site is located near the border of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. From the city centre, it is accessible via taxi or ride-sharing services. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey typically takes 15 to 30 minutes.

Visit Duration and Timing

As the facility is no longer operational for visitors, no time needs to be allocated for a tour of the grounds. Travelers should avoid planning a visit to this specific site.

Combining with Other Attractions

Since the zoo is closed, visitors to the area can instead explore several nearby landmarks within a short distance:

  • Faisal Mosque (2.1km): One of the most prominent architectural landmarks in the city.
  • National Art Gallery, Pakistan (3km): A venue for contemporary and traditional Pakistani art.
  • Lal Masjid (3.5km): A significant mosque and religious center.
  • Rose and Jasmine Garden (4.6km): A public botanical space for walking and nature.
