Trsat Castle

Trsat Castle is a 13th-century fortification located on a hill overlooking the city of Rijeka. Visitors go here to see the historic architecture and view the Rječina canyon and the surrounding coastline from an elevated vantage point. The inner courtyard currently functions as a space for dining and relaxation.

Getting There

The castle is located above the city center. You can reach it by taking a local bus or by walking up the stairs and paths leading from the lower town. The journey from the center typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the mode of transport and your pace.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the grounds, walk through the courtyard, and observe the views of the city and canyon.

When to Visit

Late afternoon is a practical time to visit to avoid the midday heat and to see the city lighting up. During the peak summer season, the site can become crowded with tourists. Spring and autumn offer milder temperatures for the climb up the hill.
