Carioca Aqueduct

The Carioca Aqueduct, also known as Arcos da Lapa, is a colonial-era stone structure built in the mid-18th century. Originally designed to transport water from the Carioca River to the city center, it now serves as a landmark of early engineering and architecture in Rio de Janeiro. Travelers visit the site to view the arches and explore the surrounding Lapa neighborhood.

Getting There

The aqueduct is located in the central area of Rio de Janeiro. From the city center, it is accessible via taxi, ride-sharing apps, or public transit. Depending on the starting point and traffic conditions, the trip typically takes between 10 and 20 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Since the attraction is an outdoor public structure, most visitors spend 30 to 60 minutes walking around the base and taking photographs.

When to Visit

The site is open to the public at all times. It becomes crowded during weekends and evenings when the Lapa district is active. To avoid large crowds, visit during weekday mornings.
