About the Church

St. John the Baptist Church is the only Catholic parish in Samarkand, operating under the Apostolic Administration of Uzbekistan based in Tashkent. While the city is predominantly recognized for its Islamic heritage and Silk Road monuments, this building provides a rare example of Christian religious architecture in the region and serves the local Catholic community.

Getting There

The church is situated in the newer part of the city, west of the historic core. A taxi ride from the city center typically takes between 10 and 15 minutes depending on traffic.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend about 20 to 30 minutes here. The building and its grounds are compact, which allows enough time to view the exterior features and step inside.

When to Visit

Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable weather for walking in the area. Visiting during daylight hours is best for observing the structure. The site does not experience heavy tourist crowds and is generally quiet, though more people attend during Sunday services.
